Plea for help, ringworm!!!
Posted On 09/06/2009 06:32:24 by Foxie77

Hello Everyone!

I was unsure how to get this out there so I thought, well I will simply have to ask.  Sorry it is not a more traditional blog lol.

I have ringworm!  My furry children do not, thank goodness. I have seen my doctor and am currently using an antifungal creme, however, it is taking forever and I am having some more outbreak. Does anyone out there know of a cure they have encountered or possibly a natural method of getting rid of this?

I have done a bit of research but there is so much info out there, honestly I do not know what to trust.

Thank you for taking the time to read my plea.  Ringworm is highly contagious. So don't touch my blog hehe.

Have a groovy day everyone.

Foxie

Thank you!! I was using alcohol wipes and then using the antifungal cream. And when the furry kids were cuddling, on my infected arm, too close, I put a sterile patch on it to help keep them from getting it. Now its spreading a bit more but its just little circles in seperate distant spacing on the same arm. Problem is though, when I initally noticed this, I also had a rash, from something I was allergic too, huge mess! (lol probablly from all the antibiotics for naughty tooth)

I found my tree tea oil, just the night I wrote this and thought,,,heyyyyyy this might help. lol , great minds.. and used it then a bit later used the antifungal creme again. Yep, I dont like the smell. However its natural and an antiseptic. Fortunately its on my arm so, its kept clean and isnt in conact with clothing, this summer. I just read about apple cider vinegar, which you just confirmed, have not tried it. I also read about dabbing bleach on it. As you know though, chemicals like this, might cause me to "overreact"  I did read of a cure, I would have to pay 35 bucks for, that someone said cost 12 at the vitamin store. well Im not up to doing that yet. lol

I find this infectious little fungi really bothersome!!! Its not even pretty. And I have absolutely NO idea how I got it. Dr and Charlie both said, you could have picked it up anywhere, someone else had been. I mean last time I had this I was a little kid, and I got it from  cat!!

Thanks so much for your help ladies. Ive seen some pretty horrible pics on this!! eek, so far Im not sore like. rosie you are always well armed with info. I kept thinking well someone with kids might have an answer here. lol.

Shannon, I didnt see the link you found. I may just be blind right now. IF you have it, please send it.

The pathogens most frequently responsibile for fungal infections including ringworm are dermatophytes.  Tinea, which is caused by the fungus Trichophyton usually manifests as itch, red, scaly patch that spreads outward as it grows.  The skin can crack and become infected with a bacterial infection also if you are not exceeding careful to keep the area clean.

The most effective Antifungal herbs are:
Allium Sativum (garlic)
Commiphora molmol (myrrh essential oil)
Melaleuca spp. (tea tree oil)

A combination of equal parts lavendar and myrrh essential oils is a long standing treatment for fungal infections such as athlete's foot and ringworm.  Myrrh is fungicidal and lavendar in anti-inflamatory.  Tea tree oil is excellent as it is both an anti inflamatory and fungicidal.

Keeping the area dry and not moist is essential also Foxie.  I use tea tree oil for a lot of things.  It has a rather strong smell which some people do not like but I don't mind it at all for it smells clean and fresh to me.

Herbal vinegars are an excellent way to wash over an area that is susceptible to fungal infections also.

Hey Foxie,

I did find this link with a few natural cures in the right sidebar.  It makes sense that if it's like athlete's foot that the same cures would work on ringworm, as is noted in this article.  That's why I liked the article!  I have never had it so I can't really comment.  I've seen it in dogs and cats and have seen antifungal meds take care of it, but it does take at least 3-4 weeks.  Also, make sure there is nothing else going on with your immune system, that will take longer to cure.  Bolster your immune system too with your typical vitamins.  Good luck!
