Planning for the Future
Posted On 07/27/2010 10:44:41 by administrator

Numerous people have been inquiring about what I feel we can expect to happen in the future concerning our living conditions and the economy.  I hesitate to comment because I do not want to be thought of as "doomsday" spreader or to draw energy that is negative however I do believe we have to prepare for the future and what it might bring.

What steps would you take to prepare if you knew that five years from now everything would cost 10 times more than it does right now? Gas, food, electricity, solar panels, hybrid cars and just everything will cost you 10 times more.  Gas will be going for 30 to 40 dollars per gallon and your income will not be anymore than a few dollars more a month than it is right now.

What would you do to be better prepared to meet that kind of crisis when and if it occurs?

What would you do right now so you can be in a better place to cope with the economy?

Do you have enough land to grow some of your food?  Would you be willing to cooperate with neighbors to collectively grow your vegetables if necessary?

Do you know how much firewood it would take to warm your home if electricity was too expensive to run your furnace?

What would it cost you to commute to work if gasoline costs $30 to $40 a gallon?  Would you consider buying an electric bicycle or a motorcycle?

Would you be willing to keep goats to trim your lawns and perhaps have them provide the milk for cheese making?

Do you have enough property to keep a few chickens?  For eggs.  Since the cost of feed will be high could you grow your own feed for them or know what to grow to do that?

Could you grow your own herbal medicatons?  Do you know what herbs to grow that are medicinal?

These are some of the questions we were asked in a meeting I attended recently of concerned citizens that are talking about creating a coop to produce vegetables for their families as even now the costs are getting outrageous for some.

We discussed the possibility of solar, wind and hydroelectic energy production.  They now have small wind generators that hook up to your house and produce power when it it windy and when the wind is quiet you electric company provides the power.  They can save you up to 80% of your power costs but they are very expensive to install.

I would like to hear from all of you and let us get a discussion going what you are preparing to do to meet the food shortages that are bound to come due to the crisis in fuel costs and the inflation that is just on the horizon because of the national debt and our inability to provide jobs for people to feed their families.

We are not going to be able to go back to the old ways of doing things and alternative methods are and will be the thing in the future to invest in.

Do you think we are worrying unnecessarily?  The general concensus is that by 2012 that normal people are going to be in a crisis state when it comes to getting to work and providing for their families.  Some are predicting this will start in the later part of 2010 even.

Let's discuss our alternatives and see what plans we all can make to make our families a little more secure in the future.

I for one am learning how to garden hydroponically.  I am learning about gardening in containers and small patio's.  You do not have to have five acres to feed your family.  You can learn to grow indoors if necessary with solar powered lights.  There are numerous alternative ways we can learn to survive.

I will be interested to hear your views and ideas about where you think the future is going to take us and what you will be doing to survive the increase in cost of goods.

Many blessings to everyone

Rosie
