Title: Seeking Enlightenment!

Blog Entry: I have been doing a lot of thinking about enlightenment this weekend and what it really means to all of us.  All of us who are seeking to evolve into their fullest potential come face to face with the concept of "enlightenment". Yet, for most this mystical state of fully awakened consciousness remains an intellectual concept; a state of being as unattainable as winning a national lottery. Perhaps our concept of enlightenment is not really possible and we are misguided.  We may be trying to accomplish a state of being that does not exist. I used to think that a lot of bells and whistles would go off once I reached the experience of true enlightenment.  I eagerly searched for this experience thinking I would definitely know when I reached the "place" where understanding would just flow.  Boy was I mistaken!  As I move forward with my life into my old age I definitely know that "enlightenment" as I thought it was has eluded me!  I think I am glad it did. Being aware that there is a state of being called "enlightenment" is in fact an experience of enlightenment. We as humans are so bound by our past and our past experiences that all our energy is invested into just the survival process.  We forget to smell the roses for we are just grateful it is not raining on us this particular day.  We must awaken to the experience that there is more to life then the endless toil, sorrow and hardship. When we recognize this then this is in fact genuine "enlightenment"! Once we let go of the concept that "enlightenment" is this explosive experience that we have been searching for all our life the better off we will be. We need to realize that enlightenment is simply the ongoing process of life that will continue to teach us a better way to live. I believe in our search for enlightenment we are seeking intimate moments with life.  We are desperately seeking intimacy with ourselves, with God, with nature, with our family, with all humans we encounter, with the falling rain, with our pain, with our dreams and visions, and with all the minute aspects of this experience we call "living our life", like washing dishes and doing laundry. Of course, intimacy, to be authentic, demands we consciously show up and be "present" with all our experiences. Using your mind as the primary tool to seek enlightenment is just not enough. Thinking you can achieve enlightenment through analysis, understanding and planning is not the way to achieve it I have found. I am glad I have not arrived at the place where I can receive a cosmic degree in enlightenment from the Universe!  Everyday is an enlightenment experience if we just let the moments in.  When we realize that we are responsible for our own "enlightenment" is enlightening in and of itself. Eckhart Tolle in his book "The New Earth, Awakening to your life's Purpose" states again and again that we must begin to live life by living in the moment for that is where true enlightenment is.  Enlightenment is in the precious moment before you and not some mythical place in the ether. I totally agree for I had some enlightening moments this weekend that has set me on a course of adventure that I am looking forward to in my life.  We all have those "aha" moments that enrich our life experience and they are to be savored when they arrive. I am hoping that you all have millions of "aha" moments in your life and that we all have the knowledge to know what to do with them when they arrive! Blessings of Enlightenment and joy to surround you the rest of this day and all the days ahead! Rosie
